Abstract

|
Since the first description of ischemic preconditioning, repetitive brief periods of coronary occlustion, by Murry and colleagues in 1986, variety of experimental protocols and mechanisms responsible for the cardioprotective effect of brief episodes of ischemia and intermittent reperfusion have been provided. Although many hypotheses have been suggested, controversies still remain. In this review, the author would like to emphasis the variety of effect and responsible mechanisms which are related to ischemic preconditioning.
